VIA ProSavageDDR PN266T mobile chipset with DDR266 memory support delivers a decisive performance improvement and extends battery life for Intel® and VIA processor-based mobile platforms.

Taipei, Taiwan, 23 January 2002 - VIA Technologies, Inc, a leading innovator and developer of core logic chipsets, microprocessors, and multimedia, networking and communications chips, today announced the launch of the VIA ProSavageDDR PN266T (codename: Twister-T DDR) mobile chipset for mobile Intel® Pentium® III Processor-M, Intel® Pentium® III, Intel® Celeron™ and VIA C3™ processor-based notebook PCs.

The VIA ProSavageDDR PN266T is the first mobile chipset to support fast DDR266 memory for Intel and VIA processor based systems, outperforming the hugely popular VIA ProSavage PN133 (codename: Twister) PC133 based chipset, and reducing power consumption through a 30% reduction in memory voltage.

The VIA ProSavageDDR PN266T also has S3 Graphics ProSavage8™ technology with AGP 8X equivalent bandwidth integrated into the chipset North Bridge. This delivers stunning video quality for key applications like DVD playback while eliminating the need for a discrete graphics card, thus saving real estate on the mainboard ensuring even lower power consumption in thin and light notebook designs. ProSavage8™ is an enhanced version of the proven ProSavage4™ core seen in the successful VIA ProSavage PN133 and shares the same comprehensive driver set, enabling risk free market deployment for OEMs and mobile system developers.

“The success of the VIA ProSavage PN133 has given VIA a significant share of the integrated mobile chipset market,” commented Ted Lee, Vice President of Sales and Marketing, VIA Technologies, Inc. “The VIA ProSavageDDR PN266T with DDR266 memory and ProSavage8 integrated graphics offers even more performance and will help drive the acceptance of DDR memory in this high growth segment”

"The combination of DDR memory and integrated graphics is a good fit for mobile systems because it offers an appealing balance of performance, power consumption and price," said Mike Feibus, Principal of Feibus Strategic Consulting in Scottsdale, Arizona. "Integrated graphics chipsets are taking a growing slice of the mobile market, and the emergence of DDR memory support should accelerate this trend."

About VIA ProSavageDDR PN266T
