Establishment of new VIA Platform Solutions Division

VPSD to provide VIA’s global customer base with
innovative platform solutions for Servers, PCs, and emerging new generation of
Information Appliances

October 2001 - VIA Technologies, Inc, a leading
innovator and developer of core logic chipsets, microprocessors, and multimedia
and communications chips, today announced the establishment of the VIA Platform
Solutions Division (VPSD). This new Business Unit further enhances VIA’s ability
to provide the complete platform solution for all market segments.
VPSD will bring to market a wide selection of VIA branded platforms for building
high-performance PCs, workstations and servers, as well as facilitate the rapid
development of an exciting new generation of desktop and mobile Information PCs,
Information Servers, and Information Stations in line with VIA’s "Total
Connectivity" vision.

VPSD Mission & Operations
An autonomous Business Unit within VIA, VPSD is charged with the mission of
designing, developing, and bringing to market a complete range of platform
solutions, including a new line of branded VIA Mainboards, as well as the
company’s Information PC, Set Top Box, Web Pad and future Total Connectivity
designs.
In line with the company’s highly successful fabless business model, VPSD will leverage the logistical advantages of the Greater China manufacturing engine, outsourcing production to qualified partners that have met its stringent quality standards. The Division will sell and market its products to OEMs and the System Integrator and Distribution channels, and will provide a full set of logistics, technical support, and RMA services through VIA’s global network, which includes facilities in the USA, Germany, UK, Hong Kong, China, and Taiwan.

innovative and highest performance features such as first to market support for

VPSD Products
VPSD’s first VIA branded products to hit the shelves will be the VIA P4X266
Series, a complete line of mainboards for professional, performance and value
market segments based around the acclaimed VIA P4X266 core logic chipset. The
VIA P4X266 harnesses high-performance DDR266 SDRAM, providing the most balanced
and cost effective platform for Intel® Pentium® 4 processor based PC systems,
workstations and servers.
Two such mainboards from VPSD’s P4X266 Series include the VIA P4X266 PR22-R and
the VIA P4X266 VL33-S. The 478-pin PR22-R mainboard combines support for up to
3GB of high bandwidth DDR266 SDRAM and 400MHz FSB with an array of advanced
features such as onboard IDE RAID support and 6-channel audio. The 423-pin
VL33-S mainboard provides a cost-effective and scalable solution with onboard
AC’97 audio codec and also supports up to 3GB of DDR266 SDRAM.
