Activities to highlight new and improved customer experiences with AMD Athlon(tm) XP and Microsoft(R) Windows(R) XP

SUNNYVALE, CA, OCTOBER 9, 2001-AMD (NYSE: AMD) today announced that AMD and Microsoft will collaborate on the marketing of the new AMD Athlon(tm) XP processor and Microsoft's upcoming Windows(R) XP operating system, which will be available worldwide on October 25. The joint marketing plans include select retail and small business programs and system builder and distributor promotions.

"Microsoft is pleased to work with AMD to deliver our customers a great computing experience," said John Frederiksen, general manager of PC Experience, Microsoft Corp. "Windows XP and the AMD Athlon XP processor make it easier for users to realize the full potential of their PCs."

"Whether they are productivity-based applications or digital media applications like photo editing, video encoding and media streaming, the AMD Athlon XP processor delivers extreme performance for Windows XP."

AMD and Microsoft will work together with leading retailers to provide product training for sales associates and to reach small business owners, as well as consumers, by organizing special in-store events. The companies are also running a set of promotions with product distributors, and Microsoft is participating in AMD's Tech Tour roadshow targeted at system builders.

"Systems featuring the new AMD Athlon XP processor and Windows XP will provide an enriched computing experience for personal computer users at work or in the home."

About the AMD Athlon(tm) XP Processor

The AMD Athlon(tm) XP processor features QuantiSpeed(tm) architecture, 384KB of on-chip, full-speed cache, and support for AMD's 3DNow!(tm) Professional instructions for enhanced multimedia capabilities.

The AMD Athlon XP processor is compatible with AMD's Socket A infrastructure, and supports the advanced 266MHz front-side bus.

AMD Athlon XP processors are manufactured using AMD's 0.18-micron copper process technology in Fab 30 in Dresden, Germany.
