New AMD Duron processor features 3DNow!(tm) Professional technology for enhanced multimedia computing
SUNNYVALE, CA-October 1, 2001-AMD
(NYSE: AMD) today announced a new desktop processor for the mainstream PC
market, the 1.1GHz AMD Duron(tm) processor with 3DNow!(tm) Professional
technology, offering an ideal combination of performance and features.
The AMD Duron processor enhances the everyday computing experience for home and
small- to medium-sized business PC users by delivering practical performance on
photo, audio and Internet applications. The 1.1GHz AMD Duron processor, which
includes 3DNow! Professional technology and hardware data pre-fetch support for
enhanced multimedia experience and improved productivity, also is compatible
with the Microsoft® Windows® XP operating system.
"In addition to its continued success in the United States, the AMD Duron
processor has been immensely successful around the globe. For example, nearly
half of the value segment desktop PCs sold to home users in Western Europe, and
more than half of the top selling retail desktop PC systems in Japan, are based
on AMD Duron processors," said Pat Moorhead, vice president of desktop and
mobile marketing for AMD's Computation Products Group. "Systems based on the
1.1GHz AMD Duron processor with Microsoft Windows XP will enable outstanding
performance for business and home PC users."
Like all AMD processors, the new 1.1GHz AMD Duron processor supports AMD's
stable Socket A platform.
Systems based on AMD's new processor are expected to be available in the fourth
quarter through a variety of channels worldwide.
