Compaq 'Built For You' Presario 8000Z Wins Best
Performance Desktop Computer, Features World's Highest Overall Performing PC
Processor.
SUNNYVALE, CA-November 14,
2001-PC Magazine has awarded an AMD Athlon(tm) XP
processor-based system, the Compaq Presario 8000Z, the best PC desktop system in
the high-end consumer PC category in its December 11th issue. The Compaq
Presario 8000Z, a high-end desktop system, features the AMD Athlon XP processor
1800+ and DDR (Double Data Rate) memory.
For the second year in a row, an AMD Athlon processor-based system has won this influential award. PC Magazine announced award winners in this year's December "Perfect PC" issue, which outlines the best computer systems and components.
"Overall, the Compaq Presario 8000Z is a great system for both multimedia enthusiasts and businesspeople. And the price is perfect for both, making it a clear Editors' Choice," said Richard Fisco, PC Magazine. "PC Magazine rigorously tested a wide-range of systems using real-world applications in such categories as digital media, office productivity and 3D gaming. The Compaq Presario 8000Z, featuring the AMD Athlon XP processor, outperformed competitive systems with higher clock speeds, and provided better value for the PC consumer. We congratulate Compaq for winning this year's Editors' Choice, and recognize AMD for being a part of the award-winning system for two years in a row."
"We are honored that one of the industry's most widely-recognized computer magazines has chosen an AMD Athlon XP processor-based system for this award," said Ed Ellett, vice president of marketing for AMD's Computation Products Group. "The AMD Athlon XP processor 1800+ delivers extreme performance for Windows® XP in applications such as digital media, office productivity and 3D gaming. This award acknowledges the importance of overall application performance, and not just the clock speed of the processor."
"The fact that our higher-performing AMD Athlon XP processor outperformed a higher frequency processor further validates that a 'Megahertz Myth' exists," said Pat Moorhead, AMD's vice president of customer advocacy. "With AMD's True Performance Initiative, AMD plans to define a new, more accurate measurement of PC processor performance for standard applications."
