"Mad Mike" Magee Fired From The Inquirer?

By Van Smith

Date: August 4, 2001

In response to a note sent by a disgruntled ExtremeTech reader to many members of the hardware community, Nick Stam, in his Extreme-Techyness, revealed to this traumatized audience, "Mr. Magee is no longer with theinquirer."  A surprised Magee responded later, "that's news to me."

In an ungraceful public attempt at recovery, Mr. Stam, who is a founder of Ziff-Davis's Trojan intruder ExtremeTech, later replied to Mike, "I thought I had heard very recently that you were now doing your own thing - obviously I got incorrect data."

Ouch!  Mike Magee is one of the most venerated members of our community, and, of course, heads his own very popular site, The Inquirer

ExtremeTech proclaims to be just like all the other guys in the hardware community -- only better -- but this exchange demonstrates yet again what color "Technocrats" the ZD guys really are.

The moniker "Mad Mike" was endearingly bestowed upon Mr. Magee by Intel's Pat Gelsinger.
