SUNNYVALE, CA-December 18,
2001-AMD today announced that CNET Networks'
Computer Shopper Magazine has selected the AMD Athlon(tm) processor as the best
"Overall Product of the Year" for 2001. In the 16th Annual Shoppers' Choice
Awards poll, voters selected the AMD Athlon processor as their crowning choice
for best overall technology product. Awards are announced annually in the
January issue and the winners' names posted online.
"Our readers are hardware enthusiasts who put a lot of emphasis on power and
performance, so it's no surprise that they overwhelmingly voted the AMD Athlon
processor the best product of the year," says Rik Fairlie, editor of Computer
Shopper Magazine. "The AMD Athlon processor's performance, impressive
architecture, and good value have made it the CPU of choice for those who demand
cutting-edge performance."
"We are honored that readers of one of the industry's most-read computer
enthusiast magazines have selected the AMD Athlon processor for this award,"
said Ed Ellett, vice president of Marketing at AMD. "Advanced users and
enthusiasts understand that true performance is marked by a processor's ability
to deliver better software performance, higher productivity in real-world
environments, system longevity and proven reliability. Winning this award
reinforces the fact that the AMD Athlon processor continues to be the
performance champion."
