VIA first to market with high performance mainboards based
on the new VIA Apollo P4X266A chipset, providing the ultimate platforms for
Intel® Pentium® 4 processor based PCs, workstations and servers.

2001 - VIA Technologies, Inc, a leading innovator
and developer of core logic chipsets, microprocessors, and multimedia and
communications chips, today announced the VIA P4XB-RA and P4XB-SA high
performance mainboards based on the recently launched VIA Apollo P4X266A chipset
for the Intel Pentium 4 platform.
The VIA P4X266A chipset builds upon the proven performance of the highly
acclaimed VIA P4X266 chipset, offering a memory performance gain of up to 20%
through its Performance Driven Design and the world’s fastest DDR memory
controller. The ATX-sized VIA P4XB-RA and VIA P4XB-SA mainboards support up to
3GB of high bandwidth DDR266 SDRAM and 400 MHz FSB and a full range of 478 pin
Intel Pentium 4 processors at speeds of up to 2GHz and beyond.
The VIA P4XB-RA mainboard also offers state-of-the-art onboard audio
capabilities via a C-Media six-channel audio chip, and support for IDE RAID via
an onboard Promise PDC20265R controller. With IDE RAID modes 0 and 1 supported,
users can effectively double hard drive performance (striping) and have the
option of failsafe data backup (mirroring). Both the VIA P4XB-RA and P4XB-SA
mainboards provide three DIMM slots, one AGP 4X slot, five PCI slots and one CNR
slot for maximized scalability options.
